CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Classes are held at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Rappahannock in White Stone (UUFR) unless otherwise specified.
FUNCTIONAL YOGA (FORMERLY SLOW FLOW) (Level 1/2)
Mondays 11:00-12:00 and Wednesdays 9:30-10:30 am (UUFR)
Mondays 4:30-5:30 pm (BUMC in Reedville)
This challenging yet accessible class integrates stability, mobility and flexibility to support the physical demands of daily life. You’ll practice core and balance work, sun salutations, and basic standing, seated and supine postures, all of which emphasize controlled actions that enhance joint health and functional movement. An excellent class for beginning through experienced students.
VINYASA FLOW (Level 2/3)
Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:30-10:30 am
This strong athletic practice links breath and movement while building strength, flexibility, balance and mental focus. Sun salutations and creative flow sequences are emphasized, along with more challenging options for intermediate-level poses, including arm balances. Each month has a theme such as Core, Back Extensions, Nonjudgment, Gratitude, etc to help you focus and move forward in your practice.
6-WEEK MYOFASCIAL SERIES (All)
Fridays, May 8-June 12, 9:30-10:30 am
That tight, achy feeling you sometimes experience? Myofascial Release (MFR) can help! MFR uses balls, rollers and other tools to give yourself a targeted massage. You’ll learn evidence-based techniques you can use any time to help regulate pain, reduce stress, increase range of motion, build body awareness, and improve muscle function. A perfect complement to your yoga practice!
The series includes:
Introduction to fascia and how it affects our physical and mental well-being
Benefits, contraindications and safety
Fascia rolling techniques and methods
Cost is $100 for the 6 weeks, advance registration is required and space is limited. Sorry, but class passes may not be used and no refunds will be given for unattended classes. However, if you need to miss a class, you may substitute one of Susan’s IOY yoga classes as a makeup as long as the class is taken between May 4 and June 11.
BREATHE & STRETCH (Level 1/All)
Mondays 1:00-2:00 pm (Northern Neck Family YMCA in Kilmarnock)
Ease into postures that will stretch your body and calm your mind. Whether you're brand new to yoga or a seasoned practitioner, this class will increase your range of motion, help you de-stress and is the perfect supplement to a more vigorous yoga practice or other workout. Modifications and enhancements are offered to help you find a deep stretch appropriate for your level of flexibility.
